Death hearing postponed
From Staff Reports
The hearing for the motion for summary judgment
in the lawsuit filed against Purdue University for the death of a residence
hall counselor has been continued until a later date.
The parents of Jay Severson, a student who was
killed in 1996 while serving as a counselor in Wiley Residence Hall,
have sued the University, the Board of Trustees, several administrators
and several law enforcement agencies for his death.
The University had filed a motion for summary judgment,
which if granted would dismiss the case. One allegation in the motion
is that Purdue is not subject to liability because it is a public institution.
