I feel it necessary to write this letter after reading four opinion letters in the last few days criticizing the Exponent for including the "Trapped" insert last Tuesday. I am not surprised at the open hostility expressed in response to this magazine, because the reality of abortion is indeed shocking, horrifying and why many people refuse to believe it. Those who support such a reprehensible desecration of human life generate circular arguments that defy basic embryology and deny proven scientific evidence. When sperm penetrates an egg, a zygote is formed, which contains forty-six chromosomes, all that is necessary to produce a new human life. At the union of sperm and ovum there exists a living, single-celled, complete human organism. With this knowledge should follow the seemingly obvious conclusion that a fertilized egg is a human being and should have the same claim to intrinsic human rights that are given to you or me. In addition, the letters printed were quick to accuse the insert of propaganda, particularly in regard to the link between abortion, breast cancer, and mental health disorders. These claims are based on cited scientific evidence. Look at the citations provided and do a little research. The truth is there. The problem is that people do not want to believe it.
