Printer-friendly version Bible should be used in proper wayThere have been many letters to The Exponent recently discussing homosexuality, with the Bible used as a reference. People use the Bible to justify their position to speak against and demean their audience. After doing a quick internet search, I found that the Bible has also been used in the same way to preach against the following: Abortion, alcohol, animal abuse, body piercing, cars, Catholicism, capital punishment, divorce, gambling, Halloween, Harry Potter, hunting, masturbation, money, Pokemon, smoking, tattoos, Thanksgiving Holiday, UFOs, and vegetarianism. It has also been used to support murder, revenge, and domestic abuse. I find it ironic that those people content on using the specific phrases from the Bible to diminish one thing above, would find it ludicrous to use a passage to claim that Thanksgiving should not be celebrated, or even that it is OK to beat your wife. I think it is important that we look at the messages that the Bible presents us such as love and forgiveness, rather than specific phrases that cause us to discriminate and hate. I think people reading this have two choices. They can go around and find all of the faults that exist in our world, or they can go home, and ask the Lord to be with a world that is full of discrimination, judgment, and hate, and then thank him for allowing them to even be a part of it.
